I always liked the term "wordsmith". While not a new term, the derivation of it implies a hardworking person who deals in language, much like the blacksmith of days past who plied his trade of metal working. But, it goes even beyond that. Those same blacksmiths were known for integrity, dependability, and were often portrayed as stalwarts of the small communities in which they worked. In my efforts to be a wordsmith, I have tried to capture some of those same qualities in my writing. Our world is often impressed with 'flash and brash' that is promoted so much in the media. But, after the lights go out, and the doors are closed, that old definition of integrity being 'what takes place when no one is looking', comes home to roost. Well, at least I hope it does, because that is what I am working toward.
As for details about myself, I am a new grandpa, while never giving up my role as 'Dad' to the four grown kids that my wife and I had together (yes, all of them are ours). Raised and educated in Texas (Bachelors from the School of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin), I would probably qualify as one of those proud Texans, but I try not to be quite so dogmatic about it. Yes, we are in the Bible belt, so you might expect me to be an advocate of those truths, and I am. I have found that whether you believe in what the Bible teaches, as I do, or not, it is an almanac for life.
My professional life has been varied, but the last 33 years have been in the construction industry as an employee and a business owner. I still worked at my writing, but more as a hobby and assisting others. It is now my desire to write more and utilize those life experiences in what I write.
Having said that, it is my hope we will grow to know each other better. You to know me through my writing, and I to know you through trying to keep my finger on the pulse of the world we share.
